We are going to remove the people who are allowing it to let this happen. Doesn't the school board have the authority to remove these books?

I agree. Any that do not take action to end this, need to be voted out.

No.

I could get arrested and charged with a crime for handing books with sexually graphic materials to children on the street. However, the school libraries are exempt from these laws.

That affirmative defense is an important one. However, no one is going to arrest you for putting Handmaid's Tale in your little free library box.
