Children and adolescents lack “good sense.” The age of 18 was set for smoking and drinking (prior 1988). Adolescent folly caused the age to be raised to 21 for drinking. Adult content internet sites makes a person press an over 18 box. The folly of a child clicks the box and the predictor washes their hands of any wrong doing. Their reply: “it’s in their public schools anyway.”
Freedom is not allowing children and adolescents to play in their folly, but freedom is allowing the parent, not the public, to raise their children with the morals and values within the specific family unit.
Bartow County School Board District 5 seat will be in the upcoming elections in May (early voting has started for this). I endorse James D. Satterfield (Republican Party). His stance is that books that have more adult topics shouldn’t be in public schools serving kindergarten through 12th grade.
Although it is taking a while, I can see success around the horizon. As this becomes more publicized there will be more people voicing their concern at the school board meetings. Local clergy is getting actively involved and this will increase presence at the school board meetings exponentially. The average parent and citizen of Bartow County does not realize what obscene material the Bartow County School System is furnishing to their students.
I also did notice about the audio being distorted during this last meeting so perhaps it is time to record all further meetings in the future so that does not happen again.
David, we may not be aligned on this particular issue, but I want to thank you for your friendliness and courtesy at the meeting on Monday night. It's a pleasure to deal with people who don't let hot button issues affect how they treat people. Everyone there who was supporting you was nice and it was much appreciated.
I appreciate any person who shows up to participate in the process. We learn more by listening to each other than fighting amongst each other. I too disagree with much of what you said last night. (But we were able to talk about it a bit.)
We (Americans) need to return to a more civil society, and I hope the example folks like us set can help us do that.
