Budget Analysis
An analysis of the local proposed budgets for each school system shows increased spending. There are continued expectations of increased “local revenues” (that means higher property taxes).
Both systems plan major increases in revenue. There is only one way that more money can get into the pockets of the government - it is by removing it from your pocket.
Bartow schools will increase revenues by $21.2 million. Cartersville Schools will do so by $4.7 million.
This pattern of revenue expansion has continued for years as can be seen in your property tax bills. The percent increase in property taxes through 2025 have been in double digit percentages every year for many years for both school systems. (Dips around 2021 were temporary and due to Covid pandemic).
The increased revenue allows increased spending that is suspect in its effectiveness and need. Both Bartow and Cartersville School systems have been on ever increasing spending sprees every year for many years. Bartow county plans an extra $26.3 million and Cartersville an extra $8.8 million in spending in 2026.
How to stop the excess taxation by the schools
Citizens have it in their hands to get these school boards under control. This year EVERY OTHER LOCAL GOVERNMENT in Bartow County agreed to limit their property tax hikes on homesteaded property by no more than the rate of inflation. The school boards, ever hungry for more money and ridiculous levels of spending, opted out. That is about to change when you vote “Yes” for Property tax relief this fall (see below).
Please show up at the School Board meetings on 6/9 (Cartersville) and 6/19 (Bartow) - see times, addresses above.
