How to Speak to Stop MASSIVE School Board Tax Hike: Show up at 5:30 pm TODAY, 7/31 or email/call ahead to speak!
Barriers to testifying exist - how to overcome below.
The Bartow County School Board is intent on raising property taxes 19.4%. That is likely to mean a few hundred dollars more a years for most homeowners. This is the time to stand up. This is what citizenship looks like - holding your local elected officials accountable to you, the voter. Letting them know they are being watched.
The details on the Tax hike were discussed on Saturday’s post here. (see below).
If you want to speak, there are obstacles to overcome. For some reason, this government requires people show up 15-45 minutes ahead of time to sign up and speak. HOWEVER, there are other ways to do that.
Here is how you can speak to the Bartow County School Board:
Show up between 5:15-5:45 and sign up to speak. Go to 65 Gilreath Road Cartersville, Georgia 30121
Call the school board and leave a message for Lynn Huskins at 770-606-5800, extension 3838. Be aware that if she does NOT call to confirm, this will not work.
Email lynn.huskins@bartow.k12.ga.us and request to speak. If no email response back, assume you will need to show up by no later than 5:45 to sign up.
These barriers are completely unreasonable and not consistent with standard practice of local governments in general. But these are the barriers erected to prevent feedback to the Bartow School Board we are required to overcome.
What sorts of things can you say?
You oppose a tax hike.
You recommend the “roll back rate” to keep taxes at last years levels or a tax cut.
Tell them that you have to tighten your belt in hard economic times, and they need to find a way too.
Tell them personally if you feel this will be a hardship on your family.
Ask them to justify why such a massive tax hike is needed.
